Matt’s Musings- All Star Spectacular

July 11, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

- Ahhhhh, MLB All-Star week, what a great week to see the best of the best play against each other for league supremacy….. If only we ACTUALLY got to see the players the fans voted in actually play in the game. As of the writing of this article, 16 players have backed out of the Mid-Summer classic, including the three Yankee starters and about half of the starting pitchers chosen for the AL squad. I’m not sure about the rest of you, but the All-Star game has completely lost its luster to me ever since they tried to make the game count for something, because if the players won’t take it seriously, then why should the fans? If the fans are going to vote you in, at leats have the decency to play the 1-3 innings that they usually have them play and deal with it, the fans want to see you, not who each league’s “manager” thinks should be an All-Star.

- Looking ahead to after the All-Star (If you can call half the of the roster All-Stars) game, we come to one of my favorite times of year, the trade deadline. This year’s deadline proves to be even more entertaining because the teams that are usually the sellers (Cleveland, Kansas City, Florida, Arizona, etc.) are buying this year, so expect to see some wacky names come up as trade bait in the next few weeks

- Moving away from the MLB, it’s now time to update on the NFL and the lockout situation. Simply put, there is no update. Both sides are CLAIMING that they want to strike a deal by July 21st, but I also want to be able to successfully complete a marathon on my hands, but we can’t get everything we want. Strap yourselves in, folks, if a deal doesn’t get done before the 21st, I would expect the league to start canceling games….

Tweet of The Week

@berg_matt: Bet Heavy on Charlie”

Our first tweet of the week winner comes courtesy of BigDaddyLew52 when I posed the question “Which will happen first….. end of NFL lockout or Charlie Sheen finds work in Hollywood?”

Five Things I’ve thought about Non-Sports Related

1. I am really excited for the final Harry Potter film to finally be released, mainly because even though I’ve only read the last chapter of each book, I’ve grown quite fond of the characters and wanna see how this all plays out

2. Another movie I am pumped about seeing, Captain America, looks better and better with each new trailer. I’m a big comic book nerd and so far the only bad comic book film I’ve seen this year was Green Lantern, and I think Captain America is going to be a Star-Spangled display of awesome.

3. Coffee is not a dinner drink. Sorry, had to be said. Coffee tastes good with many different things but when I saw a guy tear into a steak burrito with a jumbo sized cup of piping hot coffee, I could no longer defend coffee-for-dinner drinkers. Some combos are just not supposed to happen

4. Get a deal done Washington. it’s called compromise, people give things up in negotiations, not demand more and expect the other side to cave (I’m looking at you Mr. Speaker)

5. Why don’t I have more followers on twitter? Follow me at @berg_matt and then while you’re there follow Grovecityradio.com at @GroveCityRadio . See you all next week
