Kerry Owens Coaches Show Live From Wedgewood Pizza Recap for 9/27

September 30, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

In case you missed it, here’s how the Kerry Owens Coaches show went on Tuesday September 27th.

We were honored to have two special guests in attendance. Sr RB/LB Nate Holt and Sr OL/DL Josh High. the players and discussed what it was like to be a team leader on the young Eagles team. Both players relished the role to set a foundation for the future of the team.

Coach Owens and I talked about the injuries to his two Sr Captains, QB/DB Ben Whittaker and RB/LB Tony Roark. Neither player liked being sat out, but understood for the long run it was the best decision. Both players will play against Fairview this week even though their play on defense would be limited.

Coach Owens gave us a quick breakdown of the game against Cincinnati College Prep Acadamy. He was extremely happy with his special teams play, one FG and two block punts for TD. He was also happy to see, that without two starters, his offense was able to get back on track gaining 260 plus yards. We didn’t talk much about defense because what can you say about a unit that allowed 67 yards of offense, most of it coming on a final drive, other than WOW.

We then shifted gears and discussed the game against Fairview (KY) this week. Coach gave us his insight as to the challenges of traveling that far for a game but felt his team could handle the pressure. Fairview is 5-0 on the season.

I asked the Coach to give his grade for his team at the halfway point of the season. He of course was reluctant, as most Coaches are, to answer the question but he finally did. ‘I would give us different grades depending on the games’, Coach said, ‘but overall I feel comfortable giving a B, B- at this point.’

A Conversation with Mayor Ike Stage

Recently our Greg Kurtz had an opportunity to sit down for a one on one conversation with Mayor Ike Stage regarding his current bid to be re-elected. The conversation is based on one question.

If you are elected Mayor, what will you do to make Grove City a better place to live, work and raise a family?

We’ve invited each of the candidates for Mayor of Grove City to sit down for this same conversation and look forward to sitting down with each of them in the coming days and weeks.
