I am a nurturer by nature. Being able to help people or make them happy makes my day a little brighter. So, when I recently “discovered” something, I wanted to share it. This may not be the world’s biggest or most important revelation, but I believe it’s noteworthy.

Some lessons come to us in an instant. Others come in increments, one bit of information at a time. If we are lucky, sometimes we can take those bits of accumulated knowledge and piece them together into a tangible concept. Six years ago, we moved into a house that had been built in 1965. The kitchen counter tops were ugly. I got the bright idea of tiling them until we could decide what we really wanted to do with the kitchen. At first they were pretty. then the grout started to get dingy. We eventually had someone come in and re-grout them. Well, guess what happened. That’s right, they started getting dingy again. I hate using harsh chemicals, especially in the kitchen. And most grout cleaners are harsh. That’s where taking bits and making them into a whole comes in.

I love cleaning with vinegar. From soaking fruits & vegetables to mopping floors, vinegar does the job. Recently we had to have our bathroom tile redone and the expert told me that vinegar was one of the best things to keep tile & grout clean. That made sense to me. So that information was stored. The second bit was that most products, whether they are chemical or not, need time to work. The third source was from someone who was really trying to sell a product.

People are always trying to get us to buy the next miracle product. I have fallen prey to a lot of this wonderful “stuff” in the past. Don’t get me wrong. There are some great products out there, but not everything lives up to it’s praises. Because of this, I have become pretty skeptical. So, when someone wanted us to try a certain company’s microfiber clothes, I didn’t jump up and shout “Eureka!” Let’s face it, there are tons of microfiber clothes out there. Then, I walked into my kitchen and looked at my counter tops. They had become somewhat of an embarrassment to me. Then I started connecting the dots.

In a bowl, I mixed half water, half vinegar. I then dipped a brush into the mixture and started spreading the mixture over the tiles, making sure all the grout was covered. Then I went on to another project. Periodically I came back & reapplied some vinegar water, lightly scrubbing the grout. After about an hour, I dampened the microfiber cloth and started cleaning the grout. I would be lying if I said the grout looked new, but, the difference was amazing. I was so proud of how sparklely clean everything looked. So, you can bet your sweet bippy that once a week I will be cleaning the counter tops with vinegar. I hope this little bit of information about vinegar will make your day just a little bit sweeter.

Halloween: Trick or Treating in Grove City

October 23, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Trick or treat in Grove City. Not only on beggers night but also other events happening around the community!

Undoubtedly if you have little ones you are bracing yourself for Beggars Night.  The kids circled the date on the calendar last year, October 31, 2011 and now it is up to mom, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents and kind neighbors to come through with the goodies!

In Grove City, Beggars Night is from 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Monday, October 31st.  So if you want to be one of the houses that distributes candy that night, you should HAVE YOUR PORCH LIGHT ON so the kids and their guardians will know to come up too yur door.

A quick aside note, please make sure that your yard and sidewalk are clear of anything the children or their guardians could trip over. Think back to when you were a kid, you were excited going door to door and probably not paying attention to what was or wasn’t in your path. Add a mask that reduces your ability to see and the dusk light and you can see where this could be a problem.

Downtown Grove City will once again be the scene of “Boo On Broadway” and just like the door to door trick or treating, this will take place from 6:00pm – 8:00pm.

Also, several churches in the area are offering special events that evening as well either at their building or at their members homes throughout the community.

As always, remember to keep safety FIRST.

Moms and Dads and Guardians…

  • Know where your kids are and where their candy is coming from.
  • Do not allow them to EAT CANDY WHILE TRICK OR TREATING.
  • Be certain to examine candy before allowing children to eat it.

Now, for the big people reading this….join us at The Garden Cafe on October 28 for Brews on Broadway.  The fun starts at 8PM there will be

  • Drink Specials
  • Costume Contest
  • Live Music

Costumes are not required but heck, they make the night a lot more fun, right!?!?!

A Conversation with Ted Berry, Candidate For Mayor

Ted Berry is a candidate for Mayor of Grove City.Once again, our Greg Kurtz sits down with one of the Four (4) candidates for Mayor here in Grove City. In this, his third interview, Greg talks with Ted Berry, about his effort to become Mayor of Grove City. As with the other candidates, the conversation is based on one question.

If you are elected Mayor, what will you do to make Grove City a better place to live, work and raise a family?

We’ve invited each of the candidates for Mayor of Grove City to sit down for this same conversation and look forward to sitting down with each of them in the coming days and weeks.
