11/26/2011 Walk With a Doc

According to the American Heart Association, walking is one of the most popular physical activity choices. Walking is low impact and is easier on the joints than running. It is safe – with a doctor’s okay – for people with orthopedic ailments, heart conditions and those who are more than 20% overweight. In addition, research has shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour of regular exercise.
Every Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. people are gathering in Grove City for Walk With a Doc at Fryer Park. Walkers meet at the fishing dock located near the ball fields in Fryer Park, located at 3899 Orders Road (just behind the Grove City YMCA).
At each walk participants receive free registration, blood pressure checks, energizing food and beverage. Frequent walkers have the opportunity to earn special prizes. While you walk at your own pace, you’ll have the opportunity to have questions answered by local physicians.
You don’t need special gear and there are no rules. Just put on a pair of comfortable shoes and walk alone, with friends or family or with a group. What better way to start your weekend than on your feet making strides to help your heart and improve your general health.
If there is threatening weather, contact the Grove City YMCA at 614-871-9622 for cancellation information.
Walk With a Doc is cancelled on Saturday, Nov 5. Instead, walkers are encouraged to participate in the Third Annual Grove City YMCA Turkey Trot Walk/Run.
